The amount of oil of oregano to take daily depends on the form and concentration of the supplement. Common forms are Oregano Essential Oil and Oregano Supercritical Extract. Oregano Essential Oil is produced by steam distillation and is highly concentrated, containing only the aromatic compounds from oregano. It is generally taken in 1-4 drops diluted into olive oil along with food, up to 2-3 times daily. Oregano Supercritical Extract is produced by supercritical carbon dioxide extraction and contains all oil soluble components of the plant, making it a more full spectrum extract than oregano essential oil. One capsule containing230mg supercritical oregano can be taken twice daily with meals. Always follow the directions on your product label and consult a healthcare provider for personalized guidance, especially for long-term use or if you take medications.*

Gaia Herbs lists biomarker amounts in milligrams, because percentage is based on weight, and different extracts and carriers will have varying weights, so mg is more accurate.In milligrams, there is no less than 27mg carvacrol and no more than 5mg thymol per ONE capsule of Gaia Herbs' Oil of Oregano. This equals a total of 32mg carvacrol / thymol (per 1 capsule) perthe label. Thymol and carvacrol are very similar in chemistry and for this reason are listed together on the label. To find the mg of biomarker in a different extract, you’ll need to multiply the % times the weight of the extract listed as the serving in the supplement facts panel.
